What this is: When you need to figure out how far away from an object/obstacle (like a building or large tree) you need to park your satellite truck or place a flyaway dish in order to see over it for a clear line of sight, use our Line of Sight calculator tool along with the CMG Look Angle Calculator to figure it out.

Instructions:

1. Go to the CMG Look Angles Calculator; select the satellite and city and calculate the look angle for the Elevation.
2. Enter the Elevation from the CMG Look Angles Calculator in the "Elevation angle (in degrees)" field
3. Enter the height of the obstacle you are trying to clear in the "Height of obstacle (in feet)" field
4. Enter the height of your truck or satellite dish dish (if it is on a platform or other raised surface) in the "Height of truck (in feet)" field
5. Click the "Compute" button

The answer computed is the minimum distance, in feet, that you need to be from the object/obstacle in order to see over it for a clear line of sight.
